The New Generation of Timbers That Have Everyone’s Attention

As one of Sydney’s leading decking installers, we have seen a lot of innovation and new technology in timber decking over the years.  #1 Decks would like to introduce you to four new generation timbers that are delivering new advantages to homeowners – Thermory, Eco5000, Kebony and Accoya. These enhanced timbers will bring you a timber deck that is as beautiful as ever, yet wears better and lasts longer.

Thermory is a beautiful and sustainable wood in Ash or Pine, which has been through thermal modification to make it very stable. The modification means no more warping, cupping or leaching. It is resistant to mould and rot and is highly durable (Ash Class 1) and available in set lengths. You can choose whether to treat it and keep the ‘as new look’ or allow it to naturally turn silver over time.

Ultralife Decking (Eco5000)

Ultralife Decking is a 100% wood product, made from Hevea Brasiliensis (a rubber tree) that was traditionally incinerated once farmers had harvested the latex.  By utilising this as a decking product, Ultralife is offering an eco friendly product that is highly suited to the Australian climate. The product offers dimensional stability and does not bleed tannin stain. It is strong and straight and comes with a 25 year warranty.

Accoya is a natural pine wood product that has undergone a process called acetylation which is a technology enabling it to resist rot and all weather elements.  It is guaranteed for 50 years above ground and zero maintenance is required, apart from cleaning. Accoya is an eco-friendly wood, sourced from abundantly available wood species from certified, sustainably managed forests and plantations.

A beautiful, natural wood popular with architects and designers due to its its durability and zero maintenance, other than cleaning. The process permanently modifies the wood cell walls, giving Kebony premium hardwood characteristics. While it is a pine, the treatment process makes the wood go a rich brown colour, and it has been a popular choice for customers wishing to achieve the grey look without the maintenance. Kebony is also an eco-friendly and sustainable wood.
